PAG chargers and battery management systems are the most advanced available. The PAG ACS software that controls the charging process was developed by PAG after years of extensive research, and continues		to evolve as new battery chemistries become available. To ensure optimum cycle life PAG batteries should always be charged with the appropriate PAG ACS charger.

	RFI CERTIFICATION
	All PAG chargers are designed to a high electrical standard, with RFI certification, and are suitable for use in all broadcast environments.

	AUTOMATIC CHARGE RATE SELECTION
	In acknowledgement of the wide variety of batteries that are available to the camera operator, PAG has incorporated revolutionary software in its chargers that provides an easy and efficient system of battery management. When a battery is connected to the charger a period of analysis ensues that detects the battery’s cell-chemistry, state-of-charge, capacity and condition.		The charger then automatically applies the correct regime to achieve a fully charged battery with the maximum capacity and cycle life. Alternatively, the charge rate can be manually set to 2A, 3A, or 4A.

	SEQUENTIAL CHARGING
	Most PAG chargers employ sequential charging which fully charges one battery a lot quicker than a simultaneous charger. Simultaneous charging distributes current over more than one battery at the same time, making the process longer.		PAG chargers are so efficient that in many cases two batteries can be sequentially charged faster than they can with simultaneous chargers of other manufacturers.

	FAST-CHARGE TERMINATION
	To perform properly batteries must be charged by exactly the right amount. Undercharging gives less than full capacity and consequently a shorter run-time, whereas overcharging can permanently damage the battery. To ensure that the fast-charge current is stopped at the correct time, and in order to detect the many varied problems associated with faulty		batteries, the PAG ACS microcomputer uses a combination of several cut-off algorithms. The software developed to do this is the most powerful and complex part of any PAG ACS charger.

	WORLDWIDE OPERATION
	PAG charging systems automatically adjust to operate from any AC mains supply worldwide.

	RECOVERY CHARGE
	PAG ACS will recognise if a battery has been over-discharged and is therefore unsuitable for fast-charging, and will indicate that it is faulty. To overcome this condition the user must activate the ancillary Recovery Charge program. Similarly, batteries that have suffered loss of capacity as a result of extended storage or use under adverse conditions may respond to the Recovery Charge Program and be rendered suitable for fast-charging.

	CAMERA POWER SUPPLY
	The Quasar incorporates an optional Camera Power Supply that provides a nominal 50W suitable for powering most professional broadcast cameras. In power supply mode the Quasar displays an accurate digital bar-graph of power consumption.		The PAG V4-CPA is a Camera Power Adaptor that enables you to power your camera from AC mains supplies worldwide using the PAG V4-iPC Charger.

	EASY TO OPERATE
	PAG chargers are easy to operate and many feature a large backlit LCD screen, which provides battery voltage and charge loaded information.

	24V TO 30V AR SERIES CHARGERS
	These single or four-channel chargers are optimised to fast-charge 24V to 30V Ni-Cd battery belts or packs, of any manufacture, via front XLR-4 sockets.		.

	BATTERY CONNECTIONS
	PAG All-Chemistry Chargers are suitable for charging PAG Li-Ion batteries as well as Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries of any reputable manufacturer, within the ranges 4.8V to 14.8V, and 1Ah to 10Ah. The features of each system vary to include 2 or 4 charging channels, a discharge unit or a camera power supply. There is a choice of battery connections: PAGlok connectors (AR124PLD and Quasar), NP1 pockets (AR124NPD), or Snap-on compatible connectors for charging compatible PAG Li-Ion batteries and some Anton-Bauer batteries (Pulsar and Quasar).		PAG chargers that incorporate PP90 (2.1mm) sockets on their front panels, for the connection of charge adaptors, are capable of charging an even greater range of batteries. PAG V-Series chargers are designed for charging V-Mount Li-Ion batteries manufactured by PAG and Sony. The PAG V2 is a sequential 2-channel model, whilst the PAG V4-iPC is a four-channel model that features Intelligent Parallel Charging, which processes four batteries simultaneously.

	24V TO 30V AR SERIES CHARGERS
	Single and four-channel AR Series chargers are available, optimised for 24V to 30V Ni-Cd batteries.

	DISCHARGE-THEN -CHARGE
	Batteries which have been repeatedly subjected to partial discharge will benefit from the analytic Discharge-then-Charge cycle program. This program discharges the battery, automatically determining the fully-discharged condition, and then fullycharges it. The discharge capacity and the subsequent charge loaded into the battery can be displayed on the charger’s backlit screen.

	PAG ACS
	Back in the early 1980s PAG’s Research & Development team conducted a full study into the behaviour patterns of batteries used in the television industry. This study enabled PAG to develop the world’s most advanced and sophist-icated microcomputer-controlled charging system, which it proudly labelled PAG ACS. PAG ACS caters for a wide range of battery types, voltages, capacities,		and cell-chemistries, as well as the variation of battery characteristics found between cell manufacturers. PAG ACS chargers are intelligent, they require only the positive and negative connections to analyse the battery and apply and monitor the charging process. No thermal sensors are required, that are typically used by other manufacturers systems.

	MAINTAINANCE CHARGE
	A special adaptive maintenance charge is automatically applied to batteries, after full charge, if necessary, to keep batteries in peak condition and ready for instant use. Nickel-Cadmium and Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries, once charged, tend to self-discharge. The rate varies with the type, size and temperature of the cell, and no one maintenance rate is ideal in all cases.

	BALANCING CHARGE
	When the fast-charging phase has been completed, the charger may switch over automatically to its balancing charge program. Investigations by PAG have shown that imbalance between cells (caused by slight differences in cell charge acceptance and capacity) can be cumulative unless the charger has the ability to address this situation.		The duration of the balancing charge is dependent upon information gained on individual cell condition during the initial analysis phase of the fast-charge program. A battery in any state-of-charge may be applied to the charger, and if PAG ACS determines that a battery is in a satisfactory state of balance, the balancing charge will not be applied.
