Geoff Mackley
Extreme Cameraman
When you are making a living from your camera you can't afford to have a battery system that's unreliable.
Missing the action costs money and clients
The last thing you want to worry about is your power letting you down as an event unfolds in front of you. That's why Geoff Mackley recently upgraded his battery system to the Quasar charger and Lithium-Ion batteries from PAG.
Geoff specialises in extremes
He travels the world filming hurricanes, typhoons and erupting volcanos. The sort of environments that other film crews steer well clear of. He has built an international reputation for this work and been the subject of several documentaries on the Discovery and National Geographic channels. In their view he is responsible for some of the best volcano footage ever seen with his dramatic shots of Mount Etna erupting. more recently he has been to Banda Aceh city and the surrounding area devastated by the tsunami.
Expedition to the Erta Ale volcano in Ethiopia
"With me were camerawoman Rachael Wilson and mountaineer/rigger Mark Whetu. Once there, we erected a steel cable across the lip of the pit and descended 90m to a ledge on the edge of the active lava lake. This made up one episode of my Discovery Channel TV series".
" I've got to have 100% confidence in my gear when I'm in these remote locations filming or I'd be out of business. Everything I do is dangerous, but it's a calculated risk. However, I can't afford to take any chances with the gear I use. I chose the PAG Lithium Ion system because of my previous experience of PAG's reliability. The new system is so much lighter and smaller, which is great when you're tramping for three days with your gear on your back".
