Karl Lear
Video Cameraman
Director/cameraman Karl Lear got the opportunity to road test some new production equipment when making a documentary entitled 'Meet America'.
He travelled the whole country by road, in a giant circle, starting and finishing in New York. This journey took-in an amazing twenty-five states in thirty-five days. The result is a six part mini-series destined for Channel 4 or 5 which aims to show some of the real America.
The nature of the programme meant it was shot on DVCam format, primarily on the Sony DSR500 with the occasional pick up shot on a VX1000. Key sponsors Sony, Canon, PAG, Vinten and ProKit all lent equipment. PAG supplied batteries, chargers and an on-board camera light.
"PAG's reliability is second to none, their kit has never let me down and performed admirably under some extreme conditions. For the majority of the work we do this is of vital importance. The batteries have withstood all kinds of trauma and during the 'Meet America' shoot for CH4 the Paglight provided ample illumination for an interview over a mile underground with no additional power source. The optional extra filters pack for the light is well worth the extra investment."
